Mark 15:1-15 — Jesus Before Pilate

Mark.15.1-15

¹And immediately in the morning, the chief priests, having prepared a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole Council, having bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. ²And Pilate questioned him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And answering, he says to him, “You say so.” ³And the chief priests accused him of many things. ⁴And Pilate was questioning him again, saying, “Do you answer nothing? See how many things they accuse you of!” ⁵But Jesus answered nothing further, so that Pilate was amazed. ⁶Now at the feast he used to release to them one prisoner, whomever they asked for. ⁷And there was the one called Barabbas, bound with the rebels who had committed murder in the insurrection. ⁸And the crowd went up and began to ask him to do just as he used to do for them. ⁹And Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” ¹⁰For he knew that the chief priests had handed him over because of envy. ¹¹But the chief priests stirred up the crowd so that he might release Barabbas to them instead. ¹²And Pilate, answering again, was saying to them, “What then shall I do to the one whom you call the King of the Jews?” ¹³And they shouted again, “Crucify him!” ¹⁴And Pilate was saying to them, “Why, what evil has he done?” But they shouted all the more, “Crucify him!” ¹⁵And Pilate, wanting to do what was satisfactory for the crowd, released Barabbas to them, and he handed over Jesus, having flogged him, so that he might be crucified.
