Leviticus 27:1-34 — Laws About Vows
Lev.27.1-34
1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2Speak to the Israelites and say to them: When anyone makes a special vow involving the valuation of persons for Yahweh, 3your valuation for a male from twenty years old to sixty years old shall be fifty shekels of silver, by the sanctuary shekel. 4And if it is a female, your valuation shall be thirty shekels. 5And if the person is from five years old to twenty years old, your valuation shall be twenty shekels for the male and ten shekels for the female. 6And if the person is from one month old to five years old, your valuation shall be five shekels of silver for the male and three shekels of silver for the female. 7And if the person is sixty years old or more, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels for the male and ten shekels for the female. 8But if he is too poor for your valuation, then he shall present the person before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to what the one making the vow can afford, the priest shall value him. 9And if it is an animal from which an offering may be presented to Yahweh, everything that he gives from it to Yahweh shall be holy. 10He shall not replace it or exchange it, a good one for a bad one or a bad one for a good one; and if he does exchange one animal for another, then both it and its substitute shall be holy. 11But if it is any unclean animal from which they may not present an offering to Yahweh, then he shall present the animal before the priest. 12And the priest shall value it, whether good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand. 13And if he redeems it, he shall add a fifth to your valuation. 14And if a man consecrates his house as holy to Yahweh, the priest shall value it, whether good or bad; as the priest values it, so it shall stand. 15And if the one who consecrated it redeems his house, then he shall add a fifth of the silver of your valuation to it, and it shall be his. 16And if a man consecrates to Yahweh part of the field of his possession, then your valuation shall be according to its seed: a homer of barley seed at fifty shekels of silver. 17If he consecrates his field from the year of the Jubilee, it shall stand according to your valuation. 18But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then the priest shall calculate the silver for him according to the years that remain until the year of the Jubilee, and it shall be deducted from your valuation. 19And if the one who consecrated the field redeems it, then he shall add a fifth of the silver of your valuation to it, and it shall remain his. 20But if he does not redeem the field, or if he sells the field to another man, it may not be redeemed again. 21And the field, when it is released in the Jubilee, shall be holy to Yahweh, like a devoted field; it shall become the priest's possession. 22And if he consecrates to Yahweh a field that he has bought, which is not part of the field of his possession, 23then the priest shall calculate for him the amount of your valuation up to the year of the Jubilee, and he shall give that valuation on that day as a holy gift to Yahweh. 24In the year of the Jubilee the field shall return to the one from whom he bought it, to the one whose possession the land is. 25And every valuation of yours shall be by the sanctuary shekel: twenty gerahs shall make a shekel . 26But no one may consecrate the firstborn among animals, since as firstborn it already belongs to Yahweh; whether ox or sheep, it belongs to Yahweh. 27And if it is among the unclean animals, then he shall redeem it by your valuation and add a fifth to it; but if it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold by your valuation. 28But every devoted thing that a man devotes to Yahweh from all that belongs to him, whether human, animal, or the field of his possession, shall not be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy to Yahweh. 29No one devoted from among mankind may be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death. 30And every tithe of the land, whether from the seed of the land or from the fruit of the trees, belongs to Yahweh; it is holy to Yahweh. 31And if a man redeems any of his tithe, he shall add a fifth to it. 32And every tithe of herd and flock, everything that passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy to Yahweh. 33He shall not inspect whether it is good or bad, and he shall not exchange it; and if he does exchange it, then both it and its substitute shall be holy; it may not be redeemed. 34These are the commandments that Yahweh commanded Moses for the Israelites at Mount Sinai.
