Leviticus 24:10-23 — The Punishment for Blasphemy
Lev.24.10-23
10Now the son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian man, went out among the Israelites; and a fight broke out in the camp between the son of the Israelite woman and an Israelite man. 11And the son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.) 12They put him in custody, until the decision of the LORD should be declared to them. 13Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 14“Bring the one who cursed outside the camp, and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let the whole congregation stone him. 15And you shall speak to the Israelites, saying: 'Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin. 16And whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD shall surely be put to death. The whole congregation shall certainly stone him. The resident alien as well as the native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death. 17‘If anyone strikes any person, he shall surely be put to death. 18And whoever strikes an animal shall make restitution for it, life for life. 19If anyone inflicts an injury on his neighbor, just as he has done, so it shall be done to him: 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye , tooth for tooth. Just as he inflicts an injury on a person, so it shall be inflicted on him. 21Whoever strikes an animal shall make restitution for it, but whoever strikes a person shall be put to death. 22You shall have one standard of law for the resident alien as well as the native-born; for I am the LORD your God.’” 23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they brought the one who cursed outside the camp and stoned him with stones. Thus the Israelites did just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
