Leviticus 9:1-24 — Aaron's First Sacrifices
Lev.9.1-24
1Now on the eighth day , Moses summoned Aaron and his sons and the elders of Israel. 2He said to Aaron, "Take for yourself a calf from the herd for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering, both without blemish, and present them before YHWH. 3And you shall speak to the Israelites, saying, 'Take a male goat for a sin offering, and a calf and a lamb, both a year old and without blemish, for a burnt offering, 4and an ox and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before YHWH, and a grain offering mixed with oil. For today YHWH will appear to you.'" 5So they brought what Moses had commanded to the front of the Tent of Meeting, and the whole congregation came near and stood before YHWH. 6And Moses said, “This is what YHWH has commanded you to do, so that the glory of YHWH may appear to you.” 7Then Moses said to Aaron, “Come near to the altar and offer your sin offering and your burnt offering, and make atonement for yourself and for the people. Then offer the people's offering and make atonement for them, as YHWH commanded.” 8So Aaron came near to the altar and slaughtered the calf of the sin offering that was for himself. 9Aaron's sons brought the blood to him, and he dipped his finger in the blood and put it on the horns of the altar. Then he poured out the blood at the base of the altar. 10But the fat, the kidneys, and the lobe of the liver from the sin offering he offered up in smoke on the altar, as YHWH had commanded Moses. 11And the flesh and the hide he burned with fire outside the camp. 12Then he slaughtered the burnt offering, and Aaron's sons brought the blood to him, and he dashed it against the altar on all sides. 13Aaron's sons brought the burnt offering to him, piece by piece, and the head, and he offered them up in smoke on the altar. 14He washed the entrails and the legs and offered them up in smoke on the burnt offering on the altar. 15Then he presented the people's offering. He took the goat of the sin offering that was for the people, slaughtered it, and offered it as a sin offering like the first one. 16He presented the burnt offering and offered it according to the ordinance. 17Then he presented the grain offering, filled his hand with part of it, and offered it up in smoke on the altar, besides the morning burnt offering. 18Then he slaughtered the ox and the ram, the sacrifice of the peace offerings for the people. Aaron's sons brought the blood to him, and he dashed it against the altar on all sides. 19They also brought the fat portions from the ox and from the ram: the fat tail, the covering fat, the kidneys, and the lobe of the liver. 20They placed the fat portions on the breasts, and he offered the fat portions up in smoke on the altar. 21But the breasts and the right thigh Aaron waved as a wave offering before YHWH, as Moses had commanded. 22Then Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people and blessed them, and he came down after offering the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offerings. 23Then Moses and Aaron went into the Tent of Meeting, and when they came out, they blessed the people, and the glory of YHWH appeared to all the people. 24And fire came out from before YHWH and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell on their faces.
