Leviticus 12:1-8 — Purification After Childbirth
Lev.12.1-8
1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2Speak to the Israelites, saying: If a woman conceives and gives birth to a son, she shall be unclean for seven days; she shall be unclean as in the days of her menstruation. 3On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. 4Then she shall remain for thirty-three days in the blood of her purification . She shall not touch anything holy, and she shall not enter the sanctuary until the days of her purification are complete. 5But if she gives birth to a daughter, she shall be unclean for two weeks, as in her menstruation, and she shall remain in the blood of purification for sixty-six days. 6When the days of her purification are complete, whether for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring to the priest at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering. 7The priest shall present it before Yahweh and make atonement for her, and she will be purified from the source of her bleeding. This is the law for the woman who gives birth, whether to a son or to a daughter. 8But if she cannot afford a lamb , then she shall take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and one for a sin offering. The priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
