Leviticus 10:1-20The Death of Nadab and Abihu

Lev.10.1-20
1Now Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu each took his censer, put fire in it, laid incense on it, and presented unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. 2And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. 3Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke, saying, 'Among those who come near me I will show myself holy, and before all the people I will be glorified.'” And Aaron remained silent. 4Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel, Aaron’s uncle, and said to them, “Come near; carry your brothers from the front of the holy place to outside the camp.” 5So they came near and carried them in their tunics to outside the camp, just as Moses had said. 6Then Moses said to Aaron and to Eleazar and Ithamar his sons, "Do not let the hair of your heads hang loose, and do not tear your garments, lest you die and wrath come upon all the congregation. But let your brothers, the whole house of Israel, weep over the burning that the LORD has kindled. 7And you shall not go out from the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, lest you die, for the LORD’s anointing oil is upon you." So they did according to the word of Moses. 8And the LORD spoke to Aaron, saying, 9"You and your sons with you shall not drink wine or strong drink when you enter the Tent of Meeting, lest you die. It is a statute forever throughout your generations, 10so that you may distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, 11and so that you may teach the people of Israel all the statutes that the LORD has spoken to them by the hand of Moses." 12And Moses spoke to Aaron and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his remaining sons: "Take the grain offering that remains from the food offerings of the LORD, and eat it unleavened beside the altar, for it is most holy. 13You shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your portion and your sons’ portion from the food offerings of the LORD, for so I was commanded. 14But the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution you shall eat in a clean place, you and your sons and your daughters with you, for they are given as your portion and your sons’ portion from the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the people of Israel. 15The thigh of the contribution and the breast of the wave offering they shall bring with the food offerings of the fat pieces, to wave as a wave offering before the LORD; and it shall be yours and your sons’ with you as a permanent portion, just as the LORD has commanded." 16Then Moses diligently searched for the goat of the sin offering, and behold, it had been burned up. And he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s remaining sons, saying, 17"Why did you not eat the sin offering in the holy place? For it is most holy, and he has given it to you to bear the guilt of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the LORD. 18Behold, its blood was not brought into the holy place within. You certainly should have eaten it in the holy place, just as I commanded." 19And Aaron said to Moses, “Behold, today they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD, and yet such things as these have happened to me. If I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been acceptable in the sight of the LORD?” 20And when Moses heard that, it was acceptable to him .
