Deuteronomy 24:1-22Laws About Divorce and Various Matters

Deut.24.1-22
1If a man takes a wife and marries her, and she does not find favor in his eyes because he has found in her some shameful matter , then he shall write her a certificate of divorce, hand it to her, and send her away from his house. 2After she leaves his house, she may go and become another man's wife. 3And if the latter husband hates her and writes her a certificate of divorce, hands it to her, and sends her away from his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her as his wife, 4then her first husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she has been defiled, for that is an abomination before the LORD. You shall not bring sin upon the land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance. 5When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out with the army, nor shall any duty be imposed on him. He shall be free at home for one year and make his wife glad. 6No one shall take a pair of millstones or even the upper millstone as a pledge, for he would be taking a man's livelihood as a pledge. 7If a man is found kidnapping one of his brothers from among the Israelites, and he treats him as a slave or sells him, then that kidnapper shall die. So you shall purge the evil from your midst. 8Take care in the matter of a skin disease, and be very careful to do according to all that the Levitical priests instruct you. As I commanded them, so you shall be careful to do. 9Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt. 10When you lend your neighbor anything, you shall not enter his house to take his pledge. 11You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you are lending shall bring the pledge out to you. 12And if he is a poor man, you shall not sleep while keeping his pledge. 13You must surely return the pledge to him by sunset, so that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it shall be righteousness for you before the LORD your God. 14You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners in your land within your towns. 15You shall give him his wages the same day, before the sun sets, because he is poor and depends on it. Otherwise he may cry out to the LORD against you, and it will be sin in you. 16Fathers shall not be put to death for children, nor children for fathers; each person shall be put to death for his own sin. 17You shall not deny justice to a foreigner or a fatherless child, and you shall not take a widow's garment as a pledge. 18Remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this. 19When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it. It shall belong to the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20When you beat your olive tree, you shall not beat the branches again. It shall belong to the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow. 21When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean what remains after you. It shall belong to the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow. 22Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I am commanding you to do this.
