Deuteronomy 1:9-18The Appointment of Leaders

Deut.1.9-18
9At that time I said to you, “I cannot carry you by myself alone.” 10The LORD your God has multiplied you, and behold, today you are like the stars of the heavens in multitude. 11May the LORD, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you, as he has spoken to you. 12How can I by myself alone carry your trouble, your burden, and your disputes? 13Choose for yourselves wise, understanding, and well-known men from your tribes, and I will appoint them as your heads. 14And you answered me and said, “The matter that you have spoken is good to carry out.” 15So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and well-known men, and appointed them as heads over you: commanders of thousands, commanders of hundreds, commanders of fifties, commanders of tens, and officers for your tribes. 16And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, “Hear cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother and the foreigner with him .” 17You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid before anyone, for the judgment belongs to God. And the matter that is too difficult for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it. 18At that time I commanded you all the things that you were to carry out.
