Deuteronomy 23:1-25 — Exclusion from the Assembly; Various Laws
Deut.23.1-25
1A man must not take his father's wife, and he must not uncover his father's skirt . 2No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of Yahweh. 3No one born of a forbidden union shall enter the assembly of Yahweh; none of his descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall enter the assembly of Yahweh. 4No Ammonite or Moabite shall enter the assembly of Yahweh; none of their descendants, even to the tenth generation, shall ever enter the assembly of Yahweh. 5This is because they did not meet you with bread and water on the way when you went out of Egypt, and because they hired Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Aram-naharaim against you, to curse you. 6But Yahweh your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, and Yahweh your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because Yahweh your God loves you. 7You shall not seek their peace or their prosperity all your days, forever. 8You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you were a foreigner in his land. 9The children of the third generation who are born to them may enter the assembly of Yahweh. 10When you go out as a camp against your enemies, you shall keep yourself from every evil thing. 11If there is a man among you who is not clean because of a nocturnal emission, then he shall go outside the camp; he shall not come inside the camp. 12But when evening approaches, he shall wash with water, and when the sun sets, he may come back inside the camp. 13You shall have a designated place outside the camp, and you shall go outside there. 14You shall have a digging tool among your equipment, and when you relieve yourself outside, you shall dig a hole with it, and turn back and cover your excrement. 15For Yahweh your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to hand over your enemies before you. Therefore your camp must be holy, so that He may not see anything indecent among you and turn away from you. 16You must not hand over a slave to his master if he has escaped to you from his master. 17He shall dwell with you, in your midst, in the place that he chooses within one of your towns, wherever pleases him. You must not oppress him. 18None of the daughters of Israel shall be a shrine prostitute, and none of the sons of Israel shall be a shrine prostitute. 19You must not bring the fee of a female prostitute or the wages of a male prostitute into the house of Yahweh your God to fulfill any vow, for both of them are an abomination to Yahweh your God. 20You must not charge interest to your brother: interest on money, interest on food, or interest on anything that is lent on interest. 21You may charge interest to a foreigner, but to your brother you must not charge interest, so that Yahweh your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land that you are entering to possess. 22When you make a vow to Yahweh your God, you must not delay in fulfilling it, for Yahweh your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin. 23But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty of sin. 24You must be careful to perform whatever goes out of your lips, just as you have voluntarily made a vow to Yahweh your God, which you have promised with your mouth. 25When you enter your neighbor's vineyard, you may eat your fill of grapes as you please, but you must not put any into your container.
