Deuteronomy 11:1-32 — Love and Obey the Lord
Deut.11.1-32
1Therefore you shall love the LORD your God, and keep his charge, his statutes, his ordinances, and his commandments always. 2Know today that it is not your children who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of the LORD your God—his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm, 3and his signs and his works that he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to all his land; 4and what he did to the army of Egypt, to its horses and to its chariots, how he made the waters of the Red Sea engulf them as they pursued after you, and how the LORD destroyed them to this day; 5and what he did for you in the wilderness until you came to this place; 6and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, son of Reuben, how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel. 7For your own eyes have seen every great work of the LORD that he did. 8Therefore you shall keep every commandment that I am commanding you today, so that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land that you are crossing over to possess, 9and so that you may prolong your days on the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey. 10For the land that you are entering to possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and watered it with your foot , like a vegetable garden. 11But the land that you are crossing over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water from the rain of heaven, 12a land that the LORD your God cares for. The eyes of the LORD your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. 13And it shall be, if you earnestly listen to my commandments that I am commanding you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14then I will give the rain for your land in its season, the autumn rain and the spring rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. 15And I will provide grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be satisfied. 16Be careful, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and bow down to them, 17and the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain, and the ground will not yield its produce, and you will perish quickly from off the good land that the LORD is giving you. 18Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk along the road, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. 20And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21so that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens remain above the earth. 22For if you are sure to keep all this commandment that I am commanding you to do—to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to hold fast to him— 23then the LORD will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves. 24Every place on which the sole of your foot treads shall be yours. Your territory shall be from the wilderness and Lebanon, and from the River, the river Euphrates, as far as the western sea. 25No man will be able to stand before you. The LORD your God will lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, just as he has spoken to you. 26See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: 27the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today; 28and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way that I am commanding you today, to go after other gods that you have not known. 29And when the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to possess, you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal. 30Are they not beyond the Jordan, west of the road toward the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, beside the Oaks of Moreh? 31For you are about to cross over the Jordan to go in to possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you, and you shall possess it and dwell in it. 32And you shall be careful to do all the statutes and the ordinances that I am setting before you today.
