Numbers 36:1-13Inheritance of Zelophehad's Daughters

Num.36.1-13
1Then the heads of the ancestral houses of the clan of the sons of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh, from the clans of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses and before the leaders, the heads of the ancestral houses of the Israelites. 2They said, "My lord was commanded by the LORD to give the land as an inheritance by lot to the Israelites, and my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. 3If they become wives of men from one of the other tribes of the Israelites, then their inheritance will be withdrawn from the inheritance of our fathers and added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong, and it will be taken away from the lot of our inheritance. 4And if the Jubilee comes for the Israelites, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong, and their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers." 5So Moses commanded the Israelites by the command of the LORD, saying, "The tribe of the sons of Joseph is right. 6This is the word that the LORD has commanded concerning the daughters of Zelophehad: Let them become wives of whomever seems good to them ; only, they must become wives within the clan of the tribe of their father. 7No inheritance of the Israelites must be transferred from tribe to tribe, for the Israelites shall each cling to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. 8Every daughter who inherits an inheritance from the tribes of the Israelites must become the wife of one from the clan of the tribe of her father, so that the Israelites may each inherit the inheritance of his fathers. 9No inheritance must be transferred from one tribe to another tribe, for the tribes of the Israelites shall each cling to its own inheritance." 10As the LORD commanded Moses, so the daughters of Zelophehad did. 11Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, became wives of the sons of their father's brothers . 12They became wives within the clans of the sons of Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained with the tribe of the clan of their father. 13These are the commandments and the ordinances that the LORD commanded through Moses for the Israelites in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
