Numbers 21:1-9Victory over Arad; The Bronze Snake

Num.21.1-9
1When the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel and took some of them captive. 2Then Israel made a vow to the LORD and said, “If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will devote their cities to destruction.” 3The LORD listened to the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites; and they devoted them and their cities to destruction. So the name of the place was called Hormah . 4Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom, and the soul of the people became impatient on the journey. 5And the people spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread and there is no water, and our soul loathes this wretched food.” 6So the LORD sent fiery snakes among the people, and they bit the people, and many people of Israel died. 7Then the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he may take away the snakes from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery snake and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” 9So Moses made a bronze snake and set it on the pole; and if a snake had bitten any man, when he looked at the bronze snake, he lived.
