¹After the plague , the LORD said to Moses and to Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, ²Take a census of the whole congregation of the Israelites, from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers' houses, every man able to go out to war in Israel. ³So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, saying, ⁴Count those who are twenty years old and above, as the LORD commanded Moses. These are the Israelites who came out of the land of Egypt: ⁵Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: the sons of Reuben were Hanoch, from whom came the clan of the Hanochites; Pallu, from whom came the clan of the Palluites; ⁶Hezron, from whom came the clan of the Hezronites; Carmi, from whom came the clan of the Carmites. ⁷These were the clans of the Reubenites, and those numbered among them were 43,730. ⁸The son of Pallu was Eliab. ⁹The sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These were that Dathan and Abiram, chosen by the congregation, who rebelled against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah when they rebelled against the LORD. ¹⁰And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and Korah when that company died, when the fire consumed 250 men, and they became a warning sign . ¹¹But the sons of Korah did not die. ¹²The sons of Simeon by their clans: Nemuel, from whom came the clan of the Nemuelites; Jamin, from whom came the clan of the Jaminites; Jachin, from whom came the clan of the Jachinites; ¹³Zerah, from whom came the clan of the Zerahites; Shaul, from whom came the clan of the Shaulites. ¹⁴These were the clans of the Simeonites: 22,200. ¹⁵The sons of Gad by their clans: Zephon, from whom came the clan of the Zephonites; Haggi, from whom came the clan of the Haggites; Shuni, from whom came the clan of the Shunites; ¹⁶Ozni, from whom came the clan of the Oznites; Eri, from whom came the clan of the Erites; ¹⁷Arod, from whom came the clan of the Arodites; Areli, from whom came the clan of the Arelites. ¹⁸These were the clans of the sons of Gad according to those numbered among them: 40,500. ¹⁹The sons of Judah were Er and Onan; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. ²⁰And the sons of Judah by their clans were Shelah, from whom came the clan of the Shelanites; Perez, from whom came the clan of the Perezites; Zerah, from whom came the clan of the Zerahites. ²¹And the sons of Perez were Hezron, from whom came the clan of the Hezronites, and Hamul, from whom came the clan of the Hamulites. ²²These were the clans of Judah according to those numbered among them: 76,500. ²³The sons of Issachar by their clans: Tola, from whom came the clan of the Tolaites; Puvah, from whom came the clan of the Punites; ²⁴Jashub, from whom came the clan of the Jashubites; Shimron, from whom came the clan of the Shimronites. ²⁵These were the clans of Issachar according to those numbered among them: 64,300. ²⁶The sons of Zebulun by their clans: Sered, from whom came the clan of the Seredites; Elon, from whom came the clan of the Elonites; Jahleel, from whom came the clan of the Jahleelites. ²⁷These were the clans of the Zebulunites according to those numbered among them: 60,500. ²⁸The sons of Joseph by their clans were Manasseh and Ephraim. ²⁹The sons of Manasseh: Machir, from whom came the clan of the Machirites; and Machir became the father of Gilead, from whom came the clan of the Gileadites. ³⁰These were the sons of Gilead: Iezer, from whom came the clan of the Iezerites; Helek, from whom came the clan of the Helekites; ³¹Asriel, from whom came the clan of the Asrielites; Shechem, from whom came the clan of the Shechemites; ³²Shemida, from whom came the clan of the Shemidaites; Hepher, from whom came the clan of the Hepherites. ³³Now Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons, but only daughters, and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, Noa , Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ³⁴These were the clans of Manasseh, and those numbered among them were 52,700. ³⁵These were the sons of Ephraim by their clans: Shuthelah, from whom came the clan of the Shuthelahites; Becher, from whom came the clan of the Becherites; Tahan, from whom came the clan of the Tahanites; ³⁶And these were the sons of Shuthelah: Eran, from whom came the clan of the Eranites. ³⁷These were the clans of the sons of Ephraim according to those numbered among them: 32,500. These were the sons of Joseph by their clans. ³⁸The sons of Benjamin by their clans: Bela, from whom came the clan of the Belaites; Ashbel, from whom came the clan of the Ashbelites; Ahiram, from whom came the clan of the Ahiramites; ³⁹Shupham, from whom came the clan of the Shuphamites; Hupham, from whom came the clan of the Huphamites. ⁴⁰And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: Ard, from whom came the clan of the Ardites; Naaman, from whom came the clan of the Naamites. ⁴¹These were the sons of Benjamin by their clans, and those numbered among them were 45,600. ⁴²These were the sons of Dan by their clans: Shuham, from whom came the clan of the Shuhamites. These were the clans of Dan by their clans. ⁴³All the clans of the Shuhamites, according to those numbered among them, were 64,400. ⁴⁴The sons of Asher by their clans: Imnah, from whom came the clan of the Imnites; Ishvi, from whom came the clan of the Ishvites; Beriah, from whom came the clan of the Beriites; ⁴⁵And the sons of Beriah were Heber, from whom came the clan of the Heberites, and Malchiel, from whom came the clan of the Malchielites. ⁴⁶And the name of Asher's daughter was Serah. ⁴⁷These were the clans of the sons of Asher according to those numbered among them: 53,400. ⁴⁸The sons of Naphtali by their clans: Jahzeel, from whom came the clan of the Jahzeelites; Guni, from whom came the clan of the Gunites; ⁴⁹Jezer, from whom came the clan of the Jezerites; Shillem, from whom came the clan of the Shillemites. ⁵⁰These were the clans of Naphtali by their clans, and those numbered among them were 45,400. ⁵¹These were those numbered of the Israelites: 601,730. ⁵²Then the LORD said to Moses, ⁵³Among these the land shall be divided as an inheritance, according to the number of names. ⁵⁴To the larger group you shall give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller group you shall give a smaller inheritance; each shall be given its inheritance according to those numbered in it. ⁵⁵But the land shall be divided by lot; they shall receive their inheritance according to the names of the tribes of their fathers. ⁵⁶According to the lot their inheritance shall be divided between the larger and the smaller. ⁵⁷And these were those numbered of Levi by their clans: Gershon, from whom came the clan of the Gershonites; Kohath, from whom came the clan of the Kohathites; Merari, from whom came the clan of the Merarites. ⁵⁸These were the clans of Levi: the clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, and the clan of the Korahites. And Kohath became the father of Amram. ⁵⁹And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt. And she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam their sister. ⁶⁰And to Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ⁶¹But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD. ⁶²And those numbered among them were 23,000, every male from a month old and above, because they were not numbered among the Israelites, since no inheritance was given to them among the Israelites. ⁶³These were those numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the Israelites in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. ⁶⁴But among these there was not a man from those numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they numbered the Israelites in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵For the LORD had said of them, “They would surely die in the wilderness,” and not one of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
