John 7:14-36 — Jesus Teaches at the Festival
John.7.14-36
14But when it was already the middle of the festival, Jesus went up into the temple courts and began to teach. 15Therefore the Jews were amazed, saying, “How does this man know the Scriptures without having studied?” 16So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not my own, but comes from the one who sent me . 17If anyone wants to do his will, then he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak on my own authority. 18The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of the one who sent him, this man is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. 19Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you seeking to kill me?" 20The crowd answered , “You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?” 21Jesus answered and said to them, "I did one work, and you are all amazed. 22Because of this Moses has given you circumcision—not that it is from Moses, but from the patriarchs—and you circumcise a male on the Sabbath. 23If a male receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made an entire man well on the Sabbath? 24Do not judge by appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." 25Therefore some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, "Is this not the man they are seeking to kill? 26And look, he is speaking openly, and they are saying nothing to him. Could it be that the rulers truly know that this is the Christ ? 27But we know where this man is from; yet when the Christ comes, no one knows where he is from." 28Therefore Jesus cried out in the temple courts, teaching and saying, "You both know me and know where I am from! And I have not come on my own authority, but the one who sent me is true, whom you do not know. 29I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me." 30Therefore they were seeking to seize him, yet no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31But many from the crowd believed in him, and they were saying , “When the Christ comes, will he perform more signs than this man has done?” 32The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to seize him. 33Therefore Jesus said, "I am with you for only a little while longer, and then I am going to the one who sent me. 34You will seek me and will not find me , and where I am, you cannot come." 35Therefore the Jews said to one another, "Where is this man intending to go, that we will not find him? Is he intending to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36What is the meaning of this saying that he spoke, 'You will seek me and will not find me , and where I am, you cannot come'?"
