John 12:37-50 — Belief and Unbelief Among the Jews

John.12.37-50

³⁷Although he had done so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in him. ³⁸so that the word spoken by Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” ³⁹For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰“He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they might not see with their eyes and understand with their heart and turn, and I will heal them.” ⁴¹Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke about him. ⁴²Nevertheless, many even of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue . ⁴³For they loved the glory that comes from people more than the glory that comes from God. ⁴⁴Then Jesus cried out and said, "The one who believes in me believes not in me alone, but in the one who sent me. ⁴⁵And the one who sees me sees the one who sent me. ⁴⁶I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness. ⁴⁷If anyone hears my words and does not keep them , I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. ⁴⁸The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has one who judges him: the word that I have spoken, that very word will judge him on the last day. ⁴⁹For I have not spoken from myself, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a command as to what I should say and what I should speak. ⁵⁰And I know that his command is eternal life . So what I speak, I speak just as the Father has told me."
