John 19:38-42 — The Burial of Jesus
John.19.38-42
38Now after these things, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because of fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Pilate gave permission. So he came and took away his body. 39Nicodemus, who had first come to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds . 40So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as is the custom of the Jews to prepare for burial. 41Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been laid. 42Therefore, because of the Preparation Day of the Jews, and because the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
