John 19:17-27 — The Crucifixion of Jesus
John.19.17-27
17And carrying the cross himself , he went out to the place called Place of a Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha, 18where they crucified him, and with him two others, on this side and on that side, but Jesus in the middle. 19Pilate also wrote a notice and put it on the cross. And it was written: “JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.” 20Therefore many of the Jews read this notice, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin , and in Greek. 21So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but that he said, 'I am King of the Jews.'” 22Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” 23Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his outer garments and made four parts, a part for each soldier, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top throughout. 24So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it will be,” so that the Scripture might be fulfilled:“They divided my garments among themselves, and for my clothing they cast lots.” Therefore the soldiers did these things. 25Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26Therefore when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to the mother , “Woman, behold, your son.” 27Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
