John 7:37-52 — Living Water; Division Over Jesus
John.7.37-52
37Now on the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38The one who believes in me, just as the Scripture said, from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water." 39Now he said this about the Spirit, whom those who had believed in him were going to receive; for the Spirit had not yet been given , because Jesus had not yet been glorified. 40So from the crowd, when they heard these words, some were saying, “This truly is the Prophet.” 41Others were saying, “This is the Christ.” But others were saying, “Surely the Christ does not come from Galilee, does he?” 42Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?" 43So there arose a division in the crowd because of him. 44And some of them wanted to seize him, but no one laid hands on him. 45So the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring him?” 46The officers answered, “Never has a man spoken this way.” 47So the Pharisees answered them, “You have not also been deceived, have you?” 48“Has any of the rulers believed in him, or any of the Pharisees?” 49“But this crowd, which does not know the law, is accursed.” 50Nicodemus—the one who had come to him before , being one of them—said to them, 51“Does our law judge a man unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing?” 52They answered and said to him, “You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”
