Job 40:6-41:34The Lord Speaks: The Second Speech

Job.40.6-41.34
6Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: 7"Brace your loins now like a man; I will question you, and you will inform me. 8Will you indeed annul my justice? Will you condemn me so that you may be justified? 9Do you have an arm like God? And can you thunder with a voice like his? 10Adorn yourself now with majesty and exaltation, and clothe yourself with glory and splendor. 11Unleash the outbursts of your anger; look at everyone who is proud and bring him low. 12Look at everyone who is proud and humble him, and tread down the wicked where they stand. 13Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in the hidden place. 14Then I will also acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you. 15"Look now at Behemoth, which I made along with you; he eats grass like an ox. 16Look now, his strength is in his loins, and his power is in the muscles of his belly. 17He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together. 18His bones are tubes of bronze; his limbs are like bars of iron. 19He is the first of the ways of God; let his Maker bring near his sword! 20For the mountains yield food for him, and all the beasts of the field play there. 21He lies under the lotus plants, in the shelter of the reeds and the marsh. 22The lotus plants cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him. 23Behold, if the river rages, he is not alarmed; he is confident, though the Jordan surges against his mouth. 24Can anyone capture him while he is looking, or pierce his nose with snares?
Chapter 41
1Behold, any hope of subduing him is false; will one not be cast down even at the sight of him? 2No one is so fierce that he dares to rouse him. Who then is he who can stand before me? 3Who has given to me first, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine. 4"I will not keep silent concerning his limbs, or his mighty strength, or the grace of his proportions . 5Who can strip off his outer garment? Who can approach him with his double bridle? 6Who can open the doors of his face? Terror is all around his teeth! 7His pride is in his rows of shields, shut up closely as with a seal. 8One is so near to another that no air can come between them. 9They are joined to one another; they clasp each other and cannot be separated. 10His sneezes flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn. 11Out of his mouth go flaming torches; sparks of fire leap out. 12Out of his nostrils comes smoke, as from a boiling pot and burning reeds. 13His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. 14Strength dwells in his neck, and dismay dances before him. 15The folds of his flesh are joined together; they are cast firmly upon him and cannot be moved. 16His heart is cast as hard as a stone, cast as hard as a lower millstone. 17When he raises himself up, the mighty are terrified; because of the crashings they retreat. 18If a sword reaches him, it cannot prevail, nor the spear, the dart, or the javelin. 19He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. 20The arrow cannot make him flee; slingstones are turned into chaff for him. 21Clubs are regarded as chaff; he laughs at the rattling of the lance. 22His undersides are like sharp potsherds; he spreads out like a threshing sledge upon the mud. 23He makes the deep boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. 24Behind him he makes a shining path; one would think the deep had white hair. 25On earth there is nothing like him, a creature made without fear. 26He looks at every powerful creature; he is king over all the sons of pride." 27He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. 28The arrow cannot make him flee; slingstones become like chaff to him. 29Clubs are regarded as chaff, and he laughs at the rattling of the javelin. 30His undersides are like sharp potsherds; he leaves a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge. 31He makes the deep boil like a cauldron; he makes the sea like a jar of ointment. 32He leaves a shining wake behind him; one would think the deep had white hair. 33Nothing on earth is his equal—a creature made without fear. 34He looks upon every haughty creature; he is king over all the proud beasts.
