Job 8:1-22 — Bildad's First Speech
Job.8.1-22
1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: 2"How long will you speak these things, and the words of your mouth be a mighty wind? 3Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness? 4If your children sinned against him, he delivered them into the hand of their transgression. 5If you will seek God earnestly, and plead with the Almighty for favor; 6if you are pure and upright, surely now he will rouse himself for you, and restore your righteous dwelling. 7Though your beginning was small, your latter end will increase greatly. 8For please inquire of the past generation, and consider the search of their fathers. 9For we are but of yesterday and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow. 10Will they not teach you and tell you, and bring forth words from their heart? 11Can papyrus grow tall without a marsh? Can reeds flourish without water? 12While it is still in its bud and not plucked, it withers before any other reed. 13Such are the paths of all who forget God; and the hope of the godless will perish. 14His confidence is cut off, and his trust is a spider's web. 15He leans against his house, but it does not stand; he takes hold of it, but it does not endure. 16He is a well-watered plant before the sun, and his shoots spread out over his garden. 17His roots are entwined over a rock pile; he looks upon a house of stones. 18If he is destroyed from his place, then it will deny him, saying, 'I have not seen you.' 19Behold, this is the joy of his way, and from the dust others will spring up. 20Behold, God will not reject a blameless man, nor will he strengthen the hand of evildoers. 21He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with a shout of joy. 22Those who hate you will be clothed with shame , and the tent of the wicked will be no more."
