Genesis 18:1-15 — Three Visitors
Gen.18.1-15
1Then the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, while he was sitting at the entrance of the tent in the heat of the day. 2He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing nearby. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them and bowed down to the ground. 3He said, "My lord, if I have found favor in your sight, please do not pass your servant by. 4Let a little water be brought, that you may wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree. 5I will bring a morsel of bread so that you may refresh yourselves. After that you may pass on, since you have come to your servant.“ And they said, ”Do just as you have said." 6So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quick! Prepare three seahs of fine flour, knead it, and make bread cakes.” 7Then Abraham ran to the herd and took a tender and choice calf. He gave it to the servant, who hurried to prepare it. 8Then Abraham took curds, milk, and the calf that had been prepared, and he set them before them. He stood by them under the tree while they ate. 9They asked him, “Where is your wife Sarah?” And he said, “There, in the tent.” 10Then he said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent, which was behind him. 11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in years, and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing . 12So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, will I have pleasure, my lord being old as well?” 13And the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really bear a child when I am old?' 14Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son." 15But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
