1 Chronicles 29:1-30Gifts for Building the Temple; Solomon Made King; David's Death

1Chr.29.1-30
1Then King David said to the whole assembly, “Solomon my son, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, for the palace is not for man but for the LORD God.” 2With all my strength I have prepared for the house of my God: gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as onyx stones and settings, antimony stones and variegated stones, every kind of precious stone, and marble stones in abundance. 3Moreover, because I delight in the house of my God, I have a personal treasure of gold and silver, and I have given it to the house of my God, beyond all that I have prepared for the holy house: 4three thousand talents of gold, from the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings, 5for the gold work and the silver work, and for every kind of work by the craftsmen. And who then is willing to consecrate himself today to the LORD?" 6Then the leaders of the fathers' houses, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, and the overseers of the king's work gave willingly. 7For the service of the house of God they gave five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand darics , ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze, and one hundred thousand talents of iron. 8Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, under the care of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9Then the people rejoiced because they had offered willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the LORD; and David the king also rejoiced greatly. 10Then David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly and said, "Blessed are you, O LORD, God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting. 11Yours, O LORD, are the greatness and the power and the splendor and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all. 12Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to strengthen all. 13And now, our God, we thank you and praise your glorious name. 14But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer willingly like this? For everything is from you, and from your hand we have given to you. 15For we are sojourners before you and temporary residents, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope. 16O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes from your hand, and all is yours. 17I know, my God, that you test the heart and delight in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things, and now I have seen with joy your people who are present here offering willingly to you. 18O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel our fathers, keep this forever in the purposes of the thoughts of your people's heart, and direct their heart toward you. 19And give my son Solomon a whole heart to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, to do all of them, and to build the palace for which I have made preparation." 20Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless the LORD your God.” So all the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers, and they bowed low and prostrated themselves before the LORD and before the king. 21The next day they sacrificed sacrifices to the LORD and offered burnt offerings to the LORD: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22And they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great joy. Then they made Solomon son of David king for the second time , and they anointed him before the LORD as ruler, and Zadok as priest. 23So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of David his father, and he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. 24And all the officials and the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David, pledged allegiance to King Solomon. 25And the LORD greatly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal majesty such as had not been on any king before him in Israel. 26Now David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years. In Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three. 28He died at a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor, and Solomon his son reigned in his place. 29Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the records of Samuel the seer, in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the records of Gad the seer, 30together with all his reign and his might, and the times that came upon him and upon Israel and upon all the kingdoms of the lands.
