1 Chronicles 10:1-14The Death of Saul

1Chr.10.1-14
1Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the soldiers of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount Gilboa. 2The Philistines pursued closely after Saul and his sons, and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul. 3The battle went heavily against Saul, and the archers overtook him, and he was wounded by the archers. 4Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and abuse me.” But his armor-bearer was unwilling, for he was terrified. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it. 5When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died. 6So Saul died, along with his three sons, and his entire family died together. 7When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that the army had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled. Then the Philistines came and settled in them. 8Now it happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain of their valuables , they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. 9They stripped him, took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines all around, to proclaim the news to their idols and to the people. 10They put his armor in the temple of their gods, and they fastened his head in the temple of Dagon . 11When all Jabesh-gilead heard everything that the Philistines had done to Saul, 12all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons. They brought them to Jabesh, buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted for seven days as an act of mourning. 13So Saul died because of his unfaithfulness, which he committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance, 14and did not inquire of the LORD . Therefore, the LORD put him to death and turned the kingship over to David the son of Jesse.
