1 Chronicles 27:1-34 — Army Divisions and Other Leaders

1Chr.27.1-34

¹Now the Israelites according to their number - the heads of fathers' houses, the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and their officers - were performing duties for the king in every matter of the divisions that came on duty and went off duty month by month throughout all the months of the year. Each division was twenty-four thousand. ²Over the first division for the first month was Jashobeam son of Zabdiel, and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ³He was from the sons of Perez and was chief of all the commanders of the army for the first month. ⁴Over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and Mikloth was the leader; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁵The third commander of the army for the third month was Benaiah son of Jehoiada the priest, as chief; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁶This Benaiah was a mighty warrior among the Thirty and was over the Thirty, and Ammizabad his son was over his division. ⁷The fourth, for the fourth month, was Asahel the brother of Joab, and his son Zebadiah succeeded him; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁸The fifth, for the fifth month, was the commander Shamhuth the Izrahite; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁹The sixth, for the sixth month, was Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰The seventh, for the seventh month, was Helez the Pelonite, from the sons of Ephraim; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹¹The eighth, for the eighth month, was Sibbecai the Hushathite, a Zerahite; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹²The ninth, for the ninth month, was Abiezer the Anathothite, a Benjaminite; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹³The tenth, for the tenth month, was Maharai the Netophathite, a Zerahite; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁴The eleventh, for the eleventh month, was Benaiah the Pirathonite, from the sons of Ephraim; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁵The twelfth, for the twelfth month, was Heldai the Netophathite, from the family of Othniel; in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁶Over the tribes of Israel: for the Reubenites, Eliezer son of Zichri was leader; for the Simeonites, Shephatiah son of Maacah. ¹⁷For Levi, Hashabiah son of Kemuel; for the house of Aaron, Zadok. ¹⁸For Judah, Elihu , one of David's brothers; for Issachar, Omri son of Michael. ¹⁹For Zebulun, Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; for Naphtali, Jerimoth son of Azriel. ²⁰For the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Azaziah; for the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joel son of Pedaiah. ²¹For the half-tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo son of Zechariah; for Benjamin, Jaasiel son of Abner. ²²For Dan, Azarel son of Jeroham. These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel. ²³David did not count those twenty years old and under, because the LORD had said he would multiply Israel like the stars of the heavens. ²⁴Joab son of Zeruiah began to count, but he did not finish; because of this wrath came upon Israel, and the number was not entered in the royal annals of King David. ²⁵Over the king's treasuries was Azmaveth son of Adiel; and over the storehouses in the countryside, in the cities, in the villages, and in the towers, was Jonathan son of Uzziah. ²⁶Over those who did the work of the field for tilling the ground was Ezri son of Chelub. ²⁷Over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite; over the produce of the vineyards for the wine stores was Zabdi the Shiphmite. ²⁸Over the olive trees and the sycamore trees in the lowland was Baal-hanan the Gederite; over the stores of oil was Joash. ²⁹Over the herds grazing in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite; over the herds in the valleys was Shaphat son of Adlai. ³⁰Over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite; over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite. ³¹Over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite. All these were officials over the property of King David. ³²Jonathan, David's uncle, was an adviser, a man of understanding, and a scribe; and Jehiel son of Hachmoni was with the king's sons. ³³Ahithophel was adviser to the king, and Hushai the Archite was the king's friend. ³⁴Following Ahithophel came Jehoiada son of Benaiah and Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king's army.
