Romans 13:1-7 — Submission to Governing Authorities
Rom.13.1-7
1Everyone must submit to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God, and those who oppose will bring judgment upon themselves. 3For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good, and you will receive praise from it; 4for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is God's servant, an avenger who executes retribution upon the one who practices evil. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit, not only because of wrath, but also for the sake of conscience. 6For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God's ministers, continually devoting themselves to this very thing. 7Pay your obligations to everyone: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
