Romans 4:1-12 — Abraham Justified by Faith
Rom.4.1-12
1What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found? 2For if Abraham was justified by works, he has a ground for boasting, but not before God. 3For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” 4Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift, but as an obligation. 5But to the one who does not work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness. 6Just as David also speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: 7"Blessed are those whose lawless deeds were forgiven, and whose sins were covered; 8blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him." 9Is this blessedness then upon the circumcision, or upon the uncircumcision also? For we say, “Faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness.” 10How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith he had in uncircumcision, so that he might be the father of all who believe while in uncircumcision, that righteousness might be counted to them, 12and the father of circumcision to those who are not only of the circumcision, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith in uncircumcision of our father Abraham.
