Jeremiah 47:1-7 — Message About the Philistines
Jer.47.1-7
1The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza. 2This is what Yahweh says: "Behold, waters are rising from the north, and they will become an overflowing torrent. They will overflow the land and all that fills it, the city and those who dwell in it. The people will cry out, and every inhabitant of the land will wail, 3at the sound of the galloping hooves of his stallions, at the rumbling of his chariots, and the clatter of his wheels. Fathers will not turn back for their children, because their hands hang limp in terror, 4because of the day that is coming to devastate all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every surviving helper. For Yahweh is devastating the Philistines, the remnant of the coast of Caphtor. 5Baldness has come upon Gaza in mourning; Ashkelon is silenced. O remnant of their valley, how long will you gash yourselves in mourning? 6“Alas, O sword of Yahweh , how long will it be until you are quiet? Return to your sheath; rest and be still!” 7“How can you be quiet , when Yahweh has given it a command? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore, there he has appointed it.”
