1 Kings 6:1-38Solomon Builds the Temple

1Kgs.6.1-38
1In the four hundred eightieth year after the Israelites came out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv , which is the second month, Solomon began to build the house for Yahweh. 2The house that King Solomon built for Yahweh was sixty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high. 3The vestibule in front of the hall of the house was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and ten cubits deep in front of the house. 4He made for the house windows with recessed frames. 5Against the wall of the house he built a side structure all around, against the walls of the house all around, enclosing both the hall and the inner sanctuary; and he made side chambers all around. 6The lowest story was five cubits wide, the middle story six cubits wide, and the third seven cubits wide; for he made offsets on the outside of the house all around, so that the beams would not be fastened into the walls of the house. 7When the house was built, it was built of finished stone prepared at the quarry, so that no hammer or axe or any iron tool was heard in the house while it was being built. 8The entrance to the middle side chamber was on the right side of the house, and they went up by winding stairs to the middle story, and from the middle story to the third. 9So he built the house and finished it, roofing the house with cedar beams and planks. 10He built the side structure against the whole house, each story five cubits high, and it was attached to the house with cedar timbers. 11Then the word of Yahweh came to Solomon, saying: 12"As for this house that you are building, if you walk in my statutes, do my judgments, and keep all my commandments by walking in them, then I will establish with you my word that I spoke to David your father. 13And I will dwell among the Israelites, and I will not forsake my people Israel." 14So Solomon built the house and finished it. 15He built the inside walls of the house with cedar boards; from the floor of the house to the ceiling he lined the interior with wood, and he covered the floor of the house with cypress boards. 16He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the house with cedar boards from the floor up to the walls, and he formed it inside as the inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place. 17And the house, that is, the hall in front of it, was forty cubits long. 18The cedar within the house was carved with gourds and open flowers. All was cedar; no stone was seen. 19He prepared the inner sanctuary within the house, in the innermost part, to place there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. 20The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid it with pure gold, and he overlaid the cedar altar before the inner sanctuary . 21So Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold, and he drew gold chains across in front of the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold. 22He overlaid the whole house with gold, all the way until the whole house was finished; and he overlaid with gold the whole altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary. 23In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. 24One wing of the first cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub was five cubits; from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other was ten cubits. 25The second cherub also measured ten cubits; both cherubim had the same measure and the same form. 26The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so also the second cherub. 27He placed the cherubim in the midst of the inner house. The wings of the cherubim were spread out, so that the wing of the first cherub touched one wall, and the wing of the second cherub touched the other wall; and in the middle of the house their wings touched wing to wing. 28And he overlaid the cherubim with gold. 29He carved all the walls of the house all around with engraved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, in the inner and outer rooms. 30He overlaid the floor of the house with gold, in the inner and outer rooms. 31For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood; the doorframe and doorposts formed a five-sided opening. 32The two doors were of olive wood, and he carved on them cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; then he overlaid them with gold and spread the gold over the cherubim and over the palm trees. 33In the same way he made for the entrance of the hall doorposts of olive wood, forming a four-sided opening. 34The two doors were of cypress wood. The one door had two folding leaves, and the second door also had two folding leaves. 35He carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold evenly fitted over the carved work. 36He built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone and one row of cedar beams. 37In the fourth year the foundation of the house of Yahweh was laid, in the month of Ziv. 38And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul , which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its parts and according to all its specifications. So he built it in seven years.
