1 Kings 15:25-16:7 — Nadab and Baasha Kings of Israel
1Kgs.15.25-16.7
25Nadab son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and walked in the way of his father and in his sin which he made Israel to commit. 27Baasha son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against him, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging Gibbethon. 28Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. 29As soon as he became king, he struck down the entire house of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam anyone who breathed , until he had destroyed him, according to the word of Yahweh which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite, 30because of the sins of Jeroboam which he committed and which he made Israel to commit, and because of his provocation with which he provoked Yahweh, the God of Israel, to anger. 31Now the rest of the acts of Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 32And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their days. 33In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king over all Israel in Tirzah, and reigned twenty-four years. 34He did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin which he made Israel to commit.
Chapter 16
1Now the word of Yahweh came to Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha, saying: 2"Because I lifted you up out of the dust and made you ruler over my people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam, and have made my people Israel to sin, provoking me to anger with their sins, 3behold, I will utterly sweep away Baasha and his house, and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat. 4Anyone belonging to Baasha who dies in the city the dogs will eat, and anyone belonging to him who dies in the field the birds of the sky will eat." 5Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 6And Baasha slept with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah, and Elah his son reigned in his place. 7Moreover, the word of Yahweh came through the prophet Jehu son of Hanani against Baasha and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of Yahweh, provoking him to anger with the work of his hands in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he struck him down .
