1 Kings 16:29-34 — Ahab Becomes King of Israel
1Kgs.16.29-34
29In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab son of Omri became king over Israel, and Ahab son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria for twenty-two years. 30Ahab son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD, more than all who were before him. 31And as if it were a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, he took as a wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. 32He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria. 33Ahab also made the Asherah. Ahab did more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him. 34During his reign, Hiel the Bethelite rebuilt Jericho . At the cost of Abiram his firstborn he laid its foundation, and at the cost of Segub his youngest he set up its gates, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke through Joshua son of Nun.
