Revelation 8:6-9:21 — The Trumpets
Rev.8.6-9.21
6And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound the trumpets. 7And the first angel sounded his trumpet, and hail and fire mixed with blood came, and it was thrown onto the earth. And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees was burned up, and all green grass was burned up. 8And the second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood. 9And a third of the creatures in the sea that had life died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. 10And the third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of the waters. 11And the name of the star is called Wormwood . And a third of the waters became Wormwood, and many people died from the waters because they had been made bitter. 12And the fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them might be darkened, and the day might not shine for a third of it, and the night likewise. 13And I looked, and I heard one eagle flying in midheaven, saying with a loud voice, 'Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining trumpet-blasts of the three angels who are about to sound!'
Chapter 9
1And the fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star from heaven that had fallen to the earth, and the key to the shaft of the Abyss was given to him. 2And he opened the shaft of the Abyss, and smoke went up out of the shaft like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the shaft. 3And out of the smoke locusts came out onto the earth, and authority was given to them like the authority that the scorpions of the earth have. 4And they were told not to harm the grass of the earth or anything green or any tree, except only the people who do not have the seal of God on the forehead . 5And it was granted to them not to kill them, but to torment them for five months; and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a person. 6And in those days people will seek death and will by no means find it, and they will long to die, but death flees from them. 7And the appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle, and on their heads were what seemed to be crowns like gold , and their faces were like human faces. 8And they had hair like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. 9And they had breastplates like iron breastplates, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing into battle. 10And they have tails like scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to harm people for five months. 11They have over them a king , the angel of the Abyss. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon. 12The first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still coming after these things. 13And the sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard one voice from the horns of the golden altar that is before God, 14saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, 'Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.' 15And the four angels were released, those who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year , so that they might kill a third of mankind. 16And the number of the armies of the cavalry was two myriads of myriads ; I heard their number. 17And this is how I saw the horses in the vision and those sitting on them: they had breastplates that were fiery and hyacinth-colored and sulfur-colored; and the heads of the horses were like lions' heads, and out of their mouths come fire and smoke and sulfur. 18By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed: by the fire and the smoke and the sulfur coming out of their mouths. 19For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents, having heads, and with them they do harm. 20And the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, nor did they repent of the works of their hands so as to stop worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21And they did not repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their sexual immorality, nor of their thefts.
