2 Corinthians 8:16-9:5 — Titus Sent to Corinth

2Cor.8.16-9.5

¹⁶But thanks be to God, who is putting the same earnestness for you into the heart of Titus, ¹⁷because he accepted our appeal, and being very earnest, he has gone to you of his own accord. ¹⁸And with him we have sent the brother whose praise in the gospel is known throughout all the churches; ¹⁹and not only that, but he was also appointed by the churches to travel with us with this gracious gift that is being administered by us for the glory of the Lord himself and to show our earnestness. ²⁰We are taking this precaution, so that no one may blame us concerning this large gift being administered by us; ²¹for we take care for what is honorable, not only before the Lord but also before people. ²²And with them we have sent our brother, whom we have often tested in many matters and found to be earnest, but now even more earnest because of his great confidence in you. ²³As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker for you; as for our brothers, they are delegates of the churches, the glory of Christ. ²⁴Therefore, before the churches, show them the proof of your love and of our boasting about you.

Chapter 9

¹For concerning the service for the saints, it is unnecessary for me to write to you; ²for I know your readiness, of which I boast about you to the Macedonians, that Achaia has been prepared since last year, and your zeal has stirred up most of them. ³But I have sent the brothers so that our boasting about you should not prove empty in this matter, so that, just as I was saying, you may be prepared, ⁴lest somehow, if Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we would be put to shame—not to say you—in this confidence . ⁵Therefore I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and prepare in advance your previously promised generous gift, so that it may be ready as a generous gift and not as something grudgingly given.
