¹Now the allotment for the tribe of the sons of Judah by their clans reached to the border of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin in the Negev, at the farthest south. ²Their southern border was from the end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that faces south. ³It went out south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, passed along to Zin, went up south of Kadesh-barnea, passed Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned toward Karka. ⁴Then it passed to Azmon, went out to the Wadi of Egypt, and its end was at the sea. This shall be your southern border. ⁵The eastern border was the Salt Sea, as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The border on the north side began from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. ⁶The border went up to Beth-hoglah, passed north of Beth-arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. ⁷Then the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north toward Gilgal, which is opposite the Ascent of Adummim, south of the wadi. The border passed along to the waters of En-shemesh, and its end was at En-rogel. ⁸Then the border went up the Valley of Ben-hinnom to the southern slope of the Jebusite—that is, Jerusalem—and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies west of the Valley of Hinnom, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. ⁹From the top of the mountain the border curved to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, went out to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then extended to Baalah—that is, Kiriath-jearim. ¹⁰The border then turned from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, passed along the northern slope of Mount Jearim—that is, Chesalon—went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed Timnah. ¹¹Then the border went out to the northern slope of Ekron, curved toward Shikkeron, passed Mount Baalah, went out to Jabneel, and ended at the sea. ¹²The western border was the Great Sea and its coastline. This was the border of the sons of Judah all around, by their clans. ¹³And to Caleb son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the sons of Judah, according to the command of the LORD to Joshua: Kiriath-arba, the father of Anak—that is, Hebron. ¹⁴Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. ¹⁵From there he went up against the inhabitants of Debir. Formerly the name of Debir was Kiriath-sepher. ¹⁶And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him my daughter Achsah as a wife.” ¹⁷Othniel son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it, and Caleb gave him his daughter Achsah as a wife. ¹⁸When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. Then she got down from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” ¹⁹She said, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs. ²⁰This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah by their clans. ²¹The cities at the extremity of the tribe of the sons of Judah, toward the border of Edom in the Negev, were Kabzeel, Eder, and Jagur; ²²Kinah, Dimonah, and Adadah; ²³Kedesh, Hazor, and Ithnan; ²⁴Ziph, Telem, and Bealoth; ²⁵Hazor-hadattah, and Kerioth-hezron—that is, Hazor; ²⁶Amam, Shema, and Moladah; ²⁷Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, and Beth-pelet; ²⁸Hazar-shual, Beersheba, and Biziothiah; ²⁹Baalah, Iim, and Ezem; ³⁰Eltolad, Chesil, and Hormah; ³¹Ziklag, Madmannah, and Sansannah; ³²Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and En-rimmon: all the cities were twenty-nine , along with their villages. ³³In the lowland: Eshtaol, Zorah, and Ashnah; ³⁴Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam; ³⁵Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah; ³⁶Shaaraim, Adithaim, Gederah, and Gederothaim: fourteen cities, along with their villages. ³⁷Zenan, Hadashah, and Migdal-gad; ³⁸Dilan, Mizpeh, and Joktheel; ³⁹Lachish, Bozkath, and Eglon; ⁴⁰Cabbon, Lahmas, and Chitlish; ⁴¹and Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities, along with their villages. ⁴²Libnah, Ether, and Ashan; ⁴³Iphtah, Ashnah, and Nezib; ⁴⁴Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah: nine cities, along with their villages; ⁴⁵Ekron, with its daughter towns and its villages; ⁴⁶from Ekron westward, all that were near Ashdod, along with their villages; ⁴⁷Ashdod, with its daughter towns and its villages; Gaza, with its daughter towns and its villages; as far as the Wadi of Egypt, and the Great Sea with its coastline. ⁴⁸And in the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, and Socoh; ⁴⁹Dannah, Kiriath-sannah—that is, Debir; ⁵⁰Anab, Eshtemoh, and Anim; ⁵¹Goshen, Holon, and Giloh: eleven cities, along with their villages; ⁵²Arab, Rumah, and Eshan; ⁵³Janum, Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah; ⁵⁴Humtah, Kiriath-arba—that is, Hebron—and Zior: nine cities, along with their villages. ⁵⁵Maon, Carmel, Ziph, and Juttah; ⁵⁶Jezreel, Jokdeam, and Zanoah; ⁵⁷Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah: ten cities, along with their villages; ⁵⁸Halhul, Beth-zur, and Gedor; ⁵⁹Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon: six cities, along with their villages; ⁶⁰Kiriath-baal—that is, Kiriath-jearim—and Rabbah: two cities, along with their villages. ⁶¹In the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, and Secacah; ⁶²Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi: six cities, along with their villages. ⁶³But the sons of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites have lived with the sons of Judah in Jerusalem to this day .
