Joshua 15:1-63 — Judah's Allotment
Josh.15.1-63
1Now the allotment for the tribe of the sons of Judah by their clans reached to the border of Edom, to the wilderness of Zin in the Negev, at the farthest south. 2Their southern border was from the end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that faces south. 3It went out south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, passed along to Zin, went up south of Kadesh-barnea, passed Hezron, went up to Addar, and turned toward Karka. 4Then it passed to Azmon, went out to the Wadi of Egypt, and its end was at the sea. This shall be your southern border. 5The eastern border was the Salt Sea, as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The border on the north side began from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. 6The border went up to Beth-hoglah, passed north of Beth-arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 7Then the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north toward Gilgal, which is opposite the Ascent of Adummim, south of the wadi. The border passed along to the waters of En-shemesh, and its end was at En-rogel. 8Then the border went up the Valley of Ben-hinnom to the southern slope of the Jebusite—that is, Jerusalem—and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies west of the Valley of Hinnom, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. 9From the top of the mountain the border curved to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, went out to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then extended to Baalah—that is, Kiriath-jearim. 10The border then turned from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, passed along the northern slope of Mount Jearim—that is, Chesalon—went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed Timnah. 11Then the border went out to the northern slope of Ekron, curved toward Shikkeron, passed Mount Baalah, went out to Jabneel, and ended at the sea. 12The western border was the Great Sea and its coastline. This was the border of the sons of Judah all around, by their clans. 13And to Caleb son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the sons of Judah, according to the command of the LORD to Joshua: Kiriath-arba, the father of Anak—that is, Hebron. 14Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak. 15From there he went up against the inhabitants of Debir. Formerly the name of Debir was Kiriath-sepher. 16And Caleb said, “Whoever strikes Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give him my daughter Achsah as a wife.” 17Othniel son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it, and Caleb gave him his daughter Achsah as a wife. 18When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. Then she got down from her donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 19She said, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs. 20This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah by their clans. 21The cities at the extremity of the tribe of the sons of Judah, toward the border of Edom in the Negev, were Kabzeel, Eder, and Jagur; 22Kinah, Dimonah, and Adadah; 23Kedesh, Hazor, and Ithnan; 24Ziph, Telem, and Bealoth; 25Hazor-hadattah, and Kerioth-hezron—that is, Hazor; 26Amam, Shema, and Moladah; 27Hazar-gaddah, Heshmon, and Beth-pelet; 28Hazar-shual, Beersheba, and Biziothiah; 29Baalah, Iim, and Ezem; 30Eltolad, Chesil, and Hormah; 31Ziklag, Madmannah, and Sansannah; 32Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and En-rimmon: all the cities were twenty-nine , along with their villages. 33In the lowland: Eshtaol, Zorah, and Ashnah; 34Zanoah, En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam; 35Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah; 36Shaaraim, Adithaim, Gederah, and Gederothaim: fourteen cities, along with their villages. 37Zenan, Hadashah, and Migdal-gad; 38Dilan, Mizpeh, and Joktheel; 39Lachish, Bozkath, and Eglon; 40Cabbon, Lahmas, and Chitlish; 41and Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities, along with their villages. 42Libnah, Ether, and Ashan; 43Iphtah, Ashnah, and Nezib; 44Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah: nine cities, along with their villages; 45Ekron, with its daughter towns and its villages; 46from Ekron westward, all that were near Ashdod, along with their villages; 47Ashdod, with its daughter towns and its villages; Gaza, with its daughter towns and its villages; as far as the Wadi of Egypt, and the Great Sea with its coastline. 48And in the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, and Socoh; 49Dannah, Kiriath-sannah—that is, Debir; 50Anab, Eshtemoh, and Anim; 51Goshen, Holon, and Giloh: eleven cities, along with their villages; 52Arab, Rumah, and Eshan; 53Janum, Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah; 54Humtah, Kiriath-arba—that is, Hebron—and Zior: nine cities, along with their villages. 55Maon, Carmel, Ziph, and Juttah; 56Jezreel, Jokdeam, and Zanoah; 57Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah: ten cities, along with their villages; 58Halhul, Beth-zur, and Gedor; 59Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon: six cities, along with their villages; 60Kiriath-baal—that is, Kiriath-jearim—and Rabbah: two cities, along with their villages. 61In the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, and Secacah; 62Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi: six cities, along with their villages. 63But the sons of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so the Jebusites have lived with the sons of Judah in Jerusalem to this day .
