Joshua 14:1-15Division West of Jordan; Caleb's Inheritance

Josh.14.1-15
1These are the inheritances that the Israelites received in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the ancestral clans of the tribes of Israel allocated to them. 2Their inheritance was assigned by lot, as the LORD had commanded through Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe. 3For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them. 4For the descendants of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion in the land was given to the Levites except cities to live in, with their pasturelands for their livestock and their property. 5As the LORD had commanded Moses, so the Israelites did: they divided the land. 6Then the people of Judah came up to Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know the word that the LORD spoke to Moses the man of God at Kadesh-barnea concerning me and you. 7I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him back a report according to what was in my heart. 8But my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the people lose heart, while I followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly. 9And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have followed the LORD my God wholeheartedly.' 10And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, today I am eighty-five years old. 11I am still as strong today as I was on the day Moses sent me. As my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in. 12Now then, give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. Perhaps the LORD will be with me, and I shall dispossess them, as the LORD has spoken." 13Then Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. 14Therefore Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite as an inheritance to this day, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly. 15Now the former name of Hebron was Kiriath-arba (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim). And the land had rest from war.
