2 Chronicles 30:1-27Hezekiah Celebrates the Passover

2Chr.30.1-27
1Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah, and he also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, inviting them to come to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem to keep the Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel. 2For the king, his officials, and the whole assembly in Jerusalem had agreed to keep the Passover in the second month. 3They had not been able to keep it at that time, because the priests had not consecrated themselves in sufficient number, and the people had not gathered in Jerusalem. 4The proposal pleased the king and the whole assembly. 5So they established a decree to send out a proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, that the people should come to keep the Passover of the LORD, the God of Israel, in Jerusalem; for they had not kept it in great numbers as it was written. 6So the couriers went with the letters from the king and his officials throughout all Israel and Judah, according to the king's command, saying, "Children of Israel, return to the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, so that he may return to the remnant of you that has escaped from the hand of the kings of Assyria. 7Do not be like your fathers and your brothers, who were unfaithful to the LORD, the God of their fathers, so that he made them a desolation, as you see. 8Now do not stiffen your neck as your fathers did, but submit yourselves to the LORD and come to his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever, and serve the LORD your God, so that his burning anger may turn away from you. 9For if you return to the LORD, your brothers and your children will find compassion before their captors and return to this land. For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and he will not turn his face away from you if you return to him." 10So the couriers passed from city to city through the land of Ephraim and Manasseh as far as Zebulun, but people laughed at them and mocked them. 11Nevertheless, some men from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem. 12The hand of God was also on Judah, to give them one heart to carry out the command of the king and the officials according to the word of the LORD. 13A very great assembly gathered in Jerusalem to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month. 14They began to remove the altars that were in Jerusalem, and they took away all the incense altars and threw them into the Kidron Valley. 15They slaughtered the Passover on the fourteenth day of the second month. Then the priests and the Levites were ashamed, consecrated themselves, and brought burnt offerings to the house of the LORD. 16They stood in their appointed places according to their rule, according to the Law of Moses the man of God. The priests sprinkled the blood that they received from the hand of the Levites. 17For many in the assembly had not consecrated themselves, so the Levites were in charge of slaughtering the Passover lambs for everyone who was not clean, to consecrate them to the LORD. 18For a large part of the people, many of them from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not purified themselves; yet they ate the Passover otherwise than what was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, "May the good LORD make atonement for everyone 19who has set his whole heart to seek God, the LORD, the God of his fathers, even though he is not clean according to the purification required for the sanctuary." 20And the LORD heard Hezekiah and healed the people. 21The children of Israel who were present in Jerusalem kept the Feast of Unleavened Bread for seven days with great joy, and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day with mighty instruments to the LORD. 22Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who showed good understanding in the service of the LORD. So they kept the feast for seven days, sacrificing peace offerings and giving thanks to the LORD, the God of their fathers. 23Then the whole assembly agreed to keep another seven days, and they kept seven more days with joy. 24For Hezekiah king of Judah contributed to the assembly a thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep, and the officials contributed to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep. And many priests consecrated themselves. 25All the assembly of Judah rejoiced, along with the priests and the Levites and all the assembly that had come from Israel, including the resident foreigners who had come from the land of Israel and those living in Judah. 26So there was great joy in Jerusalem, for nothing like this had happened in Jerusalem since the days of Solomon son of David, king of Israel. 27Then the priests, the Levites, stood up and blessed the people. God heard their voice , and their prayer came to his holy dwelling in heaven.
