2 Chronicles 22:1-12 — Ahaziah King of Judah
2Chr.22.1-12
1Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place, because the raiding band that came with the Arabs to the camp had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram, king of Judah, became king. 2Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri. 3He too walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in doing wickedly. 4And he did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, like the house of Ahab, for after his father's death they became his counselors, to his ruin. 5He also followed their counsel and went with Joram son of Ahab, king of Israel, to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead; and the Arameans wounded Joram. 6So he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. Then Azariah son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab, because he was ill. 7Ahaziah's downfall came from God through his going to Joram. When he arrived, he went out with Joram to meet Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. 8And it came about, while Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, that he found the officials of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers who were serving Ahaziah, and he killed them. 9Then he searched for Ahaziah, and they captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. They brought him to Jehu and put him to death, and they buried him, for they said, “He is the grandson of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart.” And the house of Ahaziah had no strength to retain the kingdom. 10When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal offspring of the house of Judah. 11But Jehoshabeath, the king's daughter, took Joash son of Ahaziah and secretly removed him from among the king's sons who were being put to death, and she placed him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, because she was Ahaziah's sister, hid him from Athaliah, so that she did not put him to death. 12And he remained with Jehoshabeath and Jehoiada in the house of God , kept hidden for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
