1 Timothy 1:3-11 — Timothy Charged to Oppose False Teachers

1Tim.1.3-11

³As I urged you to remain in Ephesus when I was going to Macedonia , so I do now, so that you may command certain people not to teach a different doctrine, ⁴nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship of God that is by faith. ⁵But the goal of this command is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith, ⁶from which some have deviated and turned aside to empty talk, ⁷desiring to be teachers of the law , not understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they so confidently assert. ⁸Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, ⁹knowing this, that the law is not laid down for a righteous person, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, ¹⁰for the sexually immoral, for men who practice homosexuality, for slave traders, for liars, for perjurers, and for whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine, ¹¹in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God , with which I was entrusted.
