Proverbs 18:1-24Proverbs of Solomon

Prov.18.1-24
1One who separates himself seeks his own desire; against all sound judgment he breaks out in quarrels . 2A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in revealing what is in his heart. 3When the wicked comes, contempt also comes, and with dishonor comes reproach. 4The words of a person's mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a flowing stream. 5To show partiality to the wicked is not good, nor to deprive the righteous of justice. 6A fool's lips enter into strife, and his mouth calls for blows. 7A fool's mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to his life. 8The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts. 9Whoever is slack in his work is brother to the destroyer. 10The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is set securely on high. 11A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination. 12Before destruction a person's heart is proud, and before honor comes humility. 13Whoever answers a matter before hearing it, it is folly and shame to him. 14A person's spirit can endure his sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? 15The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. 16A person's gift makes room for him and brings him before great people. 17The first to state his case seems righteous, until his neighbor comes and examines him. 18Casting the lot ends disputes and separates the mighty. 19A brother offended is harder to win than a fortified city, and disputes are like the bars of a citadel. 20From the fruit of a person's mouth his stomach is filled; with the produce of his lips he is satisfied. 21Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. 22He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from Yahweh. 23The poor speaks with pleas, but the rich answers harshly. 24A person with many companions may be ruined , but there is a loving friend who sticks closer than a brother.
