Lamentations 5:1-22A Prayer for Restoration

Lam.5.1-22
1Remember, Yahweh, what has happened to us; look, and see our disgrace! 2Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers, our houses to foreigners. 3We have become orphans, fatherless; our mothers are like widows. 4We drink our own water for silver; our wood comes at a price. 5Upon our necks we are pursued; we are weary, and there is no rest for us. 6We have given our hand in submission to Egypt, and to Assyria, to be satisfied with bread. 7Our fathers sinned and are no more, and we bear their iniquities. 8Slaves rule over us; there is no one to deliver us from their hand. 9At the risk of our lives we get our bread, because of the sword of the wilderness. 10Our skin is as hot as an oven, because of the burning heat of famine. 11Women have been violated in Zion, virgins in the cities of Judah. 12Princes have been hung up by their hands ; the faces of elders are not respected. 13Young men carry the millstones, and boys stumble under loads of wood. 14The elders have ceased gathering at the gate, the young men from their music. 15The joy of our heart has ceased; our dancing has been turned into mourning. 16The crown has fallen from our head; woe to us, for we have sinned! 17Because of this our heart is faint; because of these things our eyes grow dim; 18because of Mount Zion, which lies desolate; foxes prowl upon it. 19You, Yahweh, sit enthroned forever; your throne endures from generation to generation. 20Why do you forget us forever, and forsake us for so many days? 21Restore us to yourself, Yahweh, that we may be restored; renew our days as of old— 22unless you have utterly rejected us, and are exceedingly angry with us.
