Judges 3:12-30Ehud

Judg.3.12-30
12Again the Israelites did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD strengthened Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because they had done what was evil in the sight of the LORD. 13He gathered to himself the men of Ammon and Amalek, then went and struck Israel, and they took possession of the City of Palms . 14And the Israelites served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years. 15But when the Israelites cried out to the LORD, the LORD raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a left-handed man. The Israelites sent tribute by him to Eglon king of Moab. 16Ehud made for himself a sword with two edges, about a cubit long, and strapped it under his clothes on his right thigh. 17Then he presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man. 18When he had finished presenting the tribute, he sent away the people who had carried it. 19But he himself turned back from the idols near Gilgal and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” And the king said, “Silence.” So all who stood attending him went out from his presence. 20Ehud came to him while he was sitting alone in the cool roof chamber that he had to himself. And Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you.” Then he rose from his seat. 21Then Ehud reached with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into Eglon's belly. 22And the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not pull the sword out of his belly, and the refuse came out . 23Then Ehud went out into the vestibule, shut the doors of the roof chamber behind him, and locked them. 24After he had gone out, his servants came and saw that the doors of the roof chamber were locked. So they said, “Surely he is relieving himself in the cool room.” 25And they waited until they were embarrassed, but behold, he still did not open the doors of the roof chamber. So they took the key and opened them, and there was their lord lying dead on the floor. 26Ehud, meanwhile, escaped while they delayed. He passed beyond the idols and escaped to Seirah. 27When he arrived, he blew the ram's horn in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went down with him from the hill country, with him leading them. 28And he said to them, “Follow after me, for the LORD has given your enemies, Moab, into your hand.” So they went down after him and seized the fords of the Jordan leading to Moab, and they did not allow anyone to cross over. 29At that time they struck down about ten thousand men of Moab, every stout man and every valiant man; not one escaped. 30So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel, and the land had rest for eighty years.
