Judges 10:6-18 — Israel Oppressed Again
Judg.10.6-18
6The Israelites again did evil in the sight of the LORD. They served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. They abandoned the LORD and did not serve him. 7So the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites. 8They shattered and crushed the Israelites that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. 9The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed. 10Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, saying, “We have sinned against you, because we have abandoned our God and served the Baals.” 11The LORD said to the Israelites, "Did I not save you from the Egyptians, from the Amorites, from the Ammonites, and from the Philistines? 12The Sidonians, Amalek, and Maon also oppressed you, and you cried out to me, and I saved you from their hand . 13Yet you have abandoned me and served other gods; therefore I will no longer save you. 14Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen! Let them save you in the time of your distress!" 15The Israelites said to the LORD, “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good in your eyes. Only please deliver us this day.” 16So they removed the foreign gods from their midst and served the LORD, and he could no longer bear the misery of Israel. 17Then the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, and the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah. 18And the people, the leaders of Gilead , said to one another, “Who is the man who will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He will be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
