Judges 3:1-6 — Nations Remaining in the Land
Judg.3.1-6
1Now these are the nations that the LORD left in order to test Israel by them—that is, all the Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars of Canaan; 2solely in order that the generations of the Israelites might know war, to teach them warfare—at least those who had not known it before: 3the five lords of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon to Lebo-hamath. 4They were left in order to test Israel by them, to find out whether they would obey the commandments of the LORD, which he had commanded their fathers through Moses. 5So the Israelites lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. 6They took the daughters of these nations as wives for themselves, and gave their own daughters in marriage to their sons, and served their gods.
