Hebrews 4:14-5:10 — Jesus the Great High Priest
Heb.4.14-5.10
14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tested in every respect as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us then draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for timely help .
Chapter 5
1For every high priest, being taken from among men, is appointed on behalf of men in the things relating to God, in order that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself also is beset with weakness. 3And because of it he is obligated to offer for sins, just as for the people, so also for himself. 4And no one takes this honor for himself, but only one called by God, just as Aaron was. 5So also Christ did not glorify himself to become a high priest, but it was the one who said to him, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you.” 6As he also says in another place, “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” 7In the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one able to save him from death, and having been heard because of his reverent submission , 8although he was a Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. 9And having been perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
