Malachi 1:6-14 — Blemished Sacrifices

Mal.1.6-14

⁶A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the reverence due me? says the LORD of Hosts to you, O priests who are scorning my name . Yet you say, “How have we scorned your name?” ⁷By presenting defiled food on my altar. Yet you say, “How have we defiled you?” By saying, “The table of the LORD is despised.” ⁸When you present a blind animal for sacrifice, is that not evil? And when you present the lame and sick, is that not evil? Offer it, please, to your governor. Will he be pleased with you, or show you favor? says the LORD of Hosts. ⁹And now, please, plead for God's favor, that he may be gracious to us. Since this has come from your hands, will he show favor to any of you? says the LORD of Hosts. ¹⁰Oh, that there were even one among you who would shut the doors , so that you might not kindle my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says the LORD of Hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hand. ¹¹For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is offered to my name, and a pure offering is brought. For my name is great among the nations, says the LORD of Hosts. ¹²But you are profaning it when you say, “The table of the Lord is defiled, and its fruit—its food—is contemptible.” ¹³You say, “What a weariness!” and you sniff at it, says the LORD of Hosts. You bring what is stolen, and the lame, and the sick; this is what you bring as an offering. Shall I accept it from your hand? says the LORD. ¹⁴Cursed is the deceiver who has in his flock a male, and vows it, but sacrifices a blemished thing to the Lord. For I am a Great King, says the LORD of Hosts, and my name is feared among the nations.
