Ecclesiastes 7:1-14 — Wisdom
Eccl.7.1-14
1A good name is better than good ointment, and the day of death than the day of birth. 2Better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for that is the end of every person, and the living should take it to heart. 3Sorrow is better than laughter, for by a sad face the heart is made better. 4The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, but the heart of fools is in the house of joy. 5Better to hear the rebuke of a wise man than to listen to the song of fools. 6For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool; this also is vanity. 7Surely oppression drives a wise man mad, and a bribe destroys the heart. 8Better the outcome of a matter than its beginning, and better a patient spirit than a haughty spirit. 9Do not be quick in your spirit to become angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. 10Do not say, 'Why were the former days better than these?' For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. 11Wisdom is good with an inheritance , and an advantage to those who see the sun. 12For wisdom is in the shadow, and money is in the shadow, but the advantage of knowledge is this: wisdom gives life to its owner. 13Consider the work of God, for who can straighten what he has made crooked? 14In a good day, enjoy the good, and in a bad day, consider: God has made the one alongside the other, so that a person may not discover anything after him .
