Ecclesiastes 5:8-20Riches Are Meaningless

Eccl.5.8-20
8But the profit of the land is for all; a king is served by the field. 9He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth will not be satisfied with income. This also is vanity. 10When goods increase, those who consume them increase; and what advantage is there to their owner, except to look at them with his eyes? 11The sleep of the worker is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich does not allow him to sleep. 12There is a grievous evil I have seen under the sun: wealth hoarded by its owner to his own harm. 13And that wealth perishes in a bad business deal , and he fathers a son, but he does not possess anything. 14As he came out from his mother's womb, naked he will return to go just as he came, and he will not take anything from his toil that he can carry in his hand. 15This also is a grievous evil: exactly as he came, so he will go. And what profit is there for him who toils for the wind? 16Also, all his days he eats in darkness, with much frustration, sickness, and anger. 17Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and to drink, and to find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun during the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his portion. 18Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given wealth and possessions, and has empowered him to eat from them, to accept his portion, and to rejoice in his toil—this is a gift of God. 19For he will not often think about the events of his lifetime, because God keeps him occupied with the joy of his heart. 20(Absent from the primary source text)
