Ecclesiastes 3:16-22 — Justice and Injustice

Eccl.3.16-22

¹⁶And again I saw under the sun: in the place of judgment, there was wickedness there; and in the place of righteousness, there was wickedness there. ¹⁷I said in my heart, “God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every deed.” ¹⁸I said in my heart, concerning human beings, that God is testing them so that they may see that they themselves are beasts. ¹⁹For the fate of human beings and the fate of beasts is the same; one fate comes to them both. As the one dies, so dies the other, and all have the same breath . Man has no advantage over the beast, for all is futility. ²⁰All go to one place. All come from the dust, and all return to the dust. ²¹Who knows whether the spirit of human beings goes upward and whether the spirit of beasts goes down to the earth? ²²So I saw that there is nothing better than that a person should rejoice in his work, for that is his portion. For who can bring him to see what will be after him?
