Amos 8:1-14A Basket of Ripe Fruit

Amos.8.1-14
1This is what the Lord GOD showed me: Look, a basket of summer fruit. 2He said, 'What do you see, Amos?' I said, 'A basket of summer fruit.' Then the LORD said to me, 'The end has come upon my people Israel; I will not pass by them anymore.' 3'In that day,' declares the Lord GOD, 'the songs of the temple will become wailing. Many corpses will lie in every place; they will throw them out. Silence!' 4Hear this, you who trample the needy and bring the poor of the land to ruin, 5saying, 'When will the New Moon be past, so that we may sell grain, and the Sabbath, so that we may open the wheat market—making the Ephah small and the Shekel large, and falsifying deceitful scales?' 6So that we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, and sell the sweepings of the grain.' 7The LORD has sworn by the Pride of Jacob: 'Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.' 8Will not the land quake for this, and all who dwell in it mourn? All of it will rise like the Nile; it will be tossed about and sink like the Nile of Egypt. 9'And in that day,' declares the Lord GOD, 'I will make the sun go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in broad daylight.' 10I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation. I will bring sackcloth upon every waist and baldness upon every head. I will make it like mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day. 11Look, days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land—not a famine for bread, nor a thirst for water, but for hearing the words of the LORD. 12They will wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they will roam about seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it. 13In that day the beautiful young women and the young men will faint from thirst. 14Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, 'As your god lives, O Dan,' and, 'As the way of Beer-sheba lives'—they will fall and never rise again.
