Amos 1:3-2:16Judgment on Israel's Neighbors and Israel

Amos.1.3-2.16
3Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron. 4So I will send fire upon the house of Hazael, and it will devour the citadels of Ben-hadad. 5I will break the bar of Damascus , cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven and the one who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Aram will go into exile to Kir," says the LORD. 6Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they carried an entire population into exile to hand them over to Edom. 7So I will send fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it will devour its citadels. 8I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod and the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon. I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish," says the Lord GOD. 9Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they handed over an entire population to Edom and did not remember a covenant of brotherhood. 10So I will send fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it will devour its citadels." 11Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and destroyed his compassion; his anger kept tearing continually, and he kept his wrath forever. 12So I will send fire upon Teman, and it will devour the citadels of Bozrah." 13Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their border. 14So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour its citadels, amid a battle cry on the day of battle, amid a storm on the day of whirlwind. 15Their king will go into exile, he and his princes together," says the LORD.
Chapter 2
1Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime. 2So I will send fire upon Moab, and it will devour the citadels of Kerioth. Moab will die amid tumult, amid shouting, and amid the sound of the horn. 3I will cut off the judge from its midst, and I will kill all its princes with him," says the LORD. 4Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they rejected the law of the LORD and did not keep his statutes, and their lies led them astray, after which their fathers walked. 5So I will send fire upon Judah, and it will devour the citadels of Jerusalem." 6Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they sell the righteous for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals. 7They trample the heads of the poor into the dust of the earth and turn aside the way of the humble; a man and his father go in to the same girl, so that they profane my holy name. 8They stretch themselves out beside every altar on garments taken in pledge, and in the house of their god they drink the wine of those who have been fined. 9Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of cedars and who was strong like the oaks; I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath. 10And it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt and led you in the wilderness forty years, to possess the land of the Amorite. 11I raised up some of your sons as prophets and some of your young men as Nazirites. Is this not so, O children of Israel?" declares the LORD. 12"But you made the Nazirites drink wine, and you commanded the prophets, saying, 'You shall not prophesy.' 13Look, I will press you down where you stand , as a cart full of sheaves presses down. 14Flight will perish from the swift, the strong will not muster his strength, and the mighty will not save his life. 15The archer will not stand, the swift-footed will not escape, and the horseman will not save his life. 16Even the courageous of heart among the warriors will flee naked on that day," declares the LORD.
