Obadiah 1:1-14Edom's Destruction

Obad.1.1-14
1The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom: We have heard a report from the LORD, and an envoy has been sent among the nations: 'Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle!' 2Behold, I have made you small among the nations; you are greatly despised. 3The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, 'Who will bring me down to the ground?' 4Though you soar high like the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the LORD. 5If thieves came to you, if robbers by night—how you are destroyed!—would they not steal only enough for themselves? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleanings? 6How Esau has been searched out! How his hidden treasures have been sought out! 7All the men of your covenant have driven you to the border; the men at peace with you have deceived you and prevailed against you. Those who eat your bread will set a trap beneath you; he has no understanding. 8Will I not on that day, declares the LORD, destroy the wise men from Edom , and understanding from the mountain of Esau? 9And your mighty men, O Teman, will be terrified, so that every man will be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter. 10Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever. 11On the day that you stood aloof, on the day that strangers carried away his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you too were like one of them. 12But you should not have gloated over your brother's day in the day of his misfortune; you should not have rejoiced over the sons of Judah in the day of their destruction; you should not have spoken proudly in the day of distress. 13You should not have entered the gate of my people in the day of their disaster; you, even you, should not have gloated over his calamity in the day of his disaster; you should not have looted his wealth in the day of his disaster. 14You should not have stood at the crossroads to cut down his fugitives; you should not have shut in his survivors in the day of distress.
